Kotwali police in Rajasthan’s Bhilwara have arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with the alleged rape of a minor girl and claims that she was pressured to convert her religion. The accused, identified as Sultan Khan, is currently being questioned, police said.

The action followed a complaint lodged at the Kotwali police station by the girl’s father. Officials said the allegations related to pressure for religious conversion are being examined separately by Bhilwara City Deputy Superintendent Sajjan Singh.

Station House Officer Shivraj Gurjar said the complainant alleged that the accused used a fake identity on social media to befriend the girl. He is accused of later calling her to meet him, recording obscene videos, and subsequently revealing his real identity.

According to police, the accused allegedly threatened to circulate the videos on social media and raped the minor girl. The complaint also states that he took her to a religious place and pressured her to change her religion.

Based on the complaint, police registered a case under relevant sections and, on the directions of Bhilwara Superintendent of Police Dharmendra Singh, constituted multiple teams to pursue the investigation.

Gurjar said the accused was subsequently arrested. He added that the allegations relating to pressure for religious conversion, including those involving a religious figure, are being probed separately by the Deputy Superintendent.

Following the incident, members of Hindu organisations reached the Kotwali police station and demanded strict action. Police assured them that stringent action would be taken against anyone found involved in the case.

Further investigation is underway.
