The Baltimore Orioles traded infielder Ramón Urías to the Houston Astros late Wednesday night, less than 24 hours before the trade deadline. In return, the Orioles will receive Single-A Right Hand Pitcher Twine Palmer.
Urías debuted in 2020 with the Orioles. So far this season, he is batting .248, with eight home runs and 34 RBIs. In 2022, Urías won a Gold Glove award and was the third Orioles third basemen to do so. The 31-year old has been credited with assisting the Orioles through their rebuild, and it is a surprise to many that he has been traded, as his contract does not expire until 2026.
Palmer has a 2-0 record with the Fayatteville Woodpeckers, the Astros’ Single-A affiliate. He has a 2.13 ERA through 13 games and 42.1 innings. Palmer could be an interesting asset to the Orioles’ Farm system.
Fans will miss Urías and the energy he brought to the team, especially as he has performed well over the past few weeks. The Orioles have more crucial choices to make before the deadline on July 31st at 6 p.m. ET.
