As I have done for this whole season, I loved this episode. The character development that we have seen for Martin over the course of this season has been really great. We only have two more episodes after this one before the season rounds up and I think this was a great way to set up the remainder of the season.
As usual something crazy always has to happen in Port Wenn, and obviously an outbreak of the Bubonic Plague is one of the top craziest things that has happened to the town in these first eleven episodes. I did find it absolutely hilarious that we started the season with Doug having boobs because of his girlfriend and this episode he got the plague because of his girlfriend. It was a great watch to see Martin call him out for his questionable dating habits.
Mark was absolute perfection in this episode. I was worried that he might crawl into his shell after seeing Martin and Louisa kissing in the last episode but he handled it in a very good way.
He was incredibly entertaining throughout the whole episode but there is always something very relatable about his character, big props to Josh Segarra for making a larger than life character relatable. I really loved his final scene where he laughed at Martin and said that Martin was lying to himself if he thinks that kissing Louisa meant nothing. I think deep down Mark is an incredibly emotionally intelligent person even if his general persona doesn’t always show that.
Obviously the progression for Martin in this episode was immense. Since the start of the season when Martin despised the whole town to now his whole demeanour towards people has changed. I loved that Martin finally admitted that he classes Mark as a friend, he has always been adverse to the idea of that.
I know it didn’t go the way that Martin had planned but him finally opening up to Louisa was great. I adored that he had written a script so that he didn’t forget anything and made sure he was going to say it. I think it was perfect to show that Martin hasn’t completely changed and he is still working on himself but I think it was done in a true way.
Louisa genuinely shocked me this episode, I truly was not expecting her to reveal that she wanted to have a child but if she does go down this route then I think it will be a great storyline to watch unfold. I really enjoyed that we have been able to watch Louisa grow since the start of the season.
Clearly Martin and Louisa aren’t quite at the stage of being together but I think for Louisa to tell Martin where her mind was allowed for an even better moment than had they got together. There was so much love and adoration portrayed by the pair during that conversation and I loved the quote “I wish you luck with that, I do”, it was almost like a goodbye.
This episode ended in a perfect way, Martin continued his run of opening up and finally chose to see the dog as his own dog. His name definitely made me laugh because the general meaning of the word is harmful in the medical sense. Even though the Doc is finally accepting the dog, he is still putting his own little sarcasm into it.
I am truly excited to see what happens in these last two episodes of the season, I have a feeling they are going to have a big impact on how we enter season two!
