X added an improved process for including various entities within its artificial intelligence generated video, with Grok now able to integrate up to seven still image references into its creations.
Grok’s updated video generation process will now enable users simply refer to a selection of uploaded images to generate a video scene, which can now be up to 30 seconds in length.
And with X Premium subscribers also able to generate images with Grok, that means that users will be able to create videos with fully AI-generated characters and elements, with more consistent presence from each within the final video output.
It’s a handy addition, which will make it easier for X Premium users to generate video of whatever they choose in the app. And with X owner Elon Musk also pushing to enable the generation of 30-minute long videos via Grok, that could eventually provide more capacity for video expression and creation in the app.
Though X has also had to restrict the use of Grok’s image generation functionality to paying users, in order to avoid rising controversy regarding the use of the tool to create nude and sexualized depictions of people.
On that front, X owner Elon Musk also announced new regulations around the use of Grok for video generation, stating in an X post last week that “if it’s allowed in an R-rated movies, it’s allowed in Grok Imagine.”
That could help to provide more guidance on what X will allow, though whether these parameters align with what regulators want to see put in place remains to be seen.
Either way, this is a helpful addition to Grok’s video generation capacity, which will make it easier to create videos with multiple elements in the app.
