Citizens moving through the gears
After a frustrating 2024-25 European club season, City manager Pep Guardiola thoroughly enjoyed his team’s 5-2 Group G victory over Juventus on Thursday.
“It has been a long, long time since we had a performance like this on and off the ball,” the Spaniard said afterwards and the Citizens should kick on with a comfortable last-16 win over Al Hilal.
The Saudis are coached by Inzaghi, whose Inter side started their run to the Champions League final with a 0-0 draw against City at the Etihad Stadium last September.
Inzaghi has made an instant impact at Al Hilal, runners-up to Real Madrid in Group H, but their CWC run should come to an end against the Citizens, who scored 13 goals in three group matches.

Citizens defence could go untroubled
City kept seven clean sheets in their final 11 Premier League and FA Cup matches and they have also looked defensively sound at the Club World Cup.

Citizens winger Savinho scored only one Premier League goal from 55 shots in 2024-25, but he found the net in Thursday’s rout of Juve and that could open the floodgates for the winger.
Only Erling Haaland had more shots on target for City in the league than Savinho’s 21, so the Brazilian’s goal drought looks to be a statistical anomaly.
He scored nine times for Girona in La Liga in 2023-24 and, given the competition for places in City’s attacking unit, he will be desperate to sharpen up in front of goal.
