BEAVER DAM, Ky. (AP) — Surging growth in Kentucky’s bourbon industry is reaching Ohio County, where the Western Kentucky Distilling Co. is planning a distillery and warehouses.
The company will invest nearly $22 million and create 35 full-time jobs with the distillery and warehouses in Beaver Dam, Gov. Andy Beshear announced Tuesday.
The project has the potential to grow with a second phase.
The first phase includes construction of a facility on 64 acres in Ohio County, Beshear’s office said. The facility is scheduled to become operational next May.
The distillery will be capable of producing up to 50,000 barrels of whiskey annually, eventually storing more than 250,000 barrels.
“At the distillery, we’re celebrating all things Kentucky from our ingredients and equipment to our 100% Kentucky ownership,” said Western Kentucky Distilling Co. COO and Master Distiller Jacob Call.
Since Beshear took office, Kentucky’s spirits industry has announced about 60 new location or expansion projects totaling nearly $1.4 billion in planned investments.
