iNaturalist is an app owned by the California Academy of Sciences and the National Geographic Society. This app is a great resource in the field or at home to help a naturalist identify pictures of living organisms. The app will give its best guess as a species but has difficulty as some groups of organisms that are a taxonomic conundrum. Along with identification, users can become involved in regional, state, or worldwide projects to promote citizen science and exploring the outdoors.
